I think a great time to bond is not over coffee & toast or tea for that matter, but in a (moving) car; where everyone is stuck in an enclosed space and should you feel like hopping out, the probability of you surviving is 0-10.
In the (moving) car, you listen to the same radio station/CD even if you hate it, cos' most of the time the lil-est boy of the family will always get his way, in this case, his favorite radio station/CD: 98.7fm, All Hits, All Day/ switching between Eminem & NEYO! Luckily, armed with the iPod, I have a wide variety of music instead of teeny kiddy hits.
In the (moving) car, you learn to share. I had to share my favorite Cadbury Milk chocolates, we took turns on the PSP, and all of us tried reading maps when we got lost. Surprisingly all of us were heavily stocked with our favorite munchies - Chips, H20, fruits (parents), and more chocolates. What a feast we had, and naps which followed naturally.
In the (moving) car, you see the sights and think about life. No distractions with passing scenery, you can't help but ponder about what you did today, last night, a few minutes ago or even later. And then once you get tired of thinking, you'll look at your reflection in the mirror, just staring. Soon slumber beckons, but funnily the driver (Daddykins) will start humming to keep himself awake which gradually turns to singing with weird gestures, before she (Mummykins) feeds him with his favorite candy. And then you've missed your snooze cos' you've just reached the next pit stop.
In the (moving) car, you unknowingly learn about the lil' things that count. Lil things that you didn't know before, lil' things that you thought didn't matter but actually did.
