I got to thinking about expectations. What is it about people that seem to crumble if it is not met? If people knew that a certain something is a tad unachievable, well, just lower the benchmark. Why risk going through sleepless nights and the likes? Why would we rather the mindless thrills than the stability of our hearts and minds? Are we habitual gamblers by nature?
A close friend shared that expectations are what make people grow, achieve, and strive beyond their wildest dreams. But who’s there to catch us or tell us when to stop and take a breath and slowly take in the wonder of our creations. It’s always about expansion, development or globalisation. And the only thing that’s minimising is the ‘de-hiring’ of employees when organisations decide to cut costs, or when species are becoming extinct. When will it be the end of all pursuits? Will it make us less human by wanting less?
